The Center for Brain Research, Medical University of Vienna, Austria, uses Bareos to archive their data. They’re using a Tandberg NeoXL 80 Autoloader System +Extension Module with two LTO-8 drives and 160 LT0-7-Tapes initialized as LTO-8 Type M. Their estimated storage size is approximately 2 PB.

Gilbert Janeselli, IT, Center for Brain Research, Medical University of Vienna:

Modern cutting-edge scientific work produces tons of raw data – from Highres-Realtime 3D imaging (Multi-Photon Laser Scanning Microscopy, Light-sheet Fluorescence Microscopy) and Highspeed Cameras over massive parallel long-time EEG recordings to the outcome of automated DNA-Sequencers. In Bareos we found the ideal software and partner for backup and especially long-time-archiving our Big Data according to “Good Scientific Practice” into a Cold-Storage environment.
