CWI

Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) is the Dutch national research institute for mathematics and computer science. Our mission is to conduct pioneering research in mathematics and computer science, generating new knowledge in these fields and conveying it to society at large, and to industry in particular.
The Netherlands is one of the most digitalized countries in Europe and even in the world. It is CWI’s mission to continually push back the scientific boundaries required for this digitalization. To align with the present needs of science and society,
CWI connects mathematics with computer science, fundamental with applied research, science with industry and also links its own scientific research to education and training at universities.

CWI currently unites 50 tenured and tenure-track researchers, 30 postdocs and 65 PhD students with more than 30 nationalities. Many members of our permanent research staff teach at a Dutch university.
The scientific effort is supported by 45 colleagues in the support departments.

“Bareos has been our backup solution for many years. Its low-level approach and reliability make it highly suitable for our field of application. Recently, we reevaluated the usefulness of a truly air-gapped backup with offsite tape storage and concluded that, given current threats, it remains a highly valid solution. In fact, we recently decided to completely renew our hardware platform and once again chose Bareos.”
